Maria Daughtry

Research Associate

In 2011, I graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Biological Science. While completing my degree, I volunteered at the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab in Panacea, FL, in Dr. Janie Wulff’s lab IDing sponges. I also received my certification as an AAUS science diver and, as part of FSU's Marine Certificate Program, put my skills to work during an internship in Miami at NOAA under Dr. Margaret Miller. I dove extensively on reefs in Key Largo assisting with coral restoration projects involving the threatened coral Acropora cervicornis, as well as long-term monitoring work of A. palmata . That amazing experience inspired my move to Miami, where I ended up volunteering in the Su Sponaugle and Robert Cowen labs until I was hired for the DWHOS project in September 2012. I plan on going back to school to complete an M.S. in marine biology in the next couple years.
